Charles and Maria Prewett 

Charles Prewett was baptised on November 17th 1817, the son of James Prewett, a coachman and his wife, Hester nee Shepherd.  Click here to read about James and Hester.  The 1841 Census shows he started his working life as a tailor.  Charles was still a tailor and living with his parents in the 1851 Census.  Charles's first wife was called Emma Bevan.  Click here to read about the early life of Charles and Emma Prewett.

Emma Prewett died in the December quarter 1861 and Charles re-married in Clifton area in 1864 to Maria Williams.  Maria was the daughter of Charles Hopton who was shown as a labourer at the time of their marriage but had also been a beerhouse keeper.   Click here to read more about the family of Charles Hopton. 

Maria had been married in 1850  to Frederick Williams, a pensioner and the son of George Williams, innkeeper.  Frederick had died aged only 35.  His death at that time obviously caused caused some gossip and Charles Prewett was a witness at the inquest.  Click here to read about Maria and Frederick Williams.

In the 1871 Census Charles and Maria were living in the house which later became known as number 16 Upper Bath Road with young Charles, then aged 11.  Charles was now described as a tailor.  Charles (senior) died aged 63 and was buried on 31st December 1880.  At the time of the 1881 Census, Maria was living alone in number 16, but on 7th November 1881 she married for a third time, this time her husband was Reuben Greenman, an army pensioner and the son of Richard Greenman a labourer and his wife Sarah.

Florence  - never married.  In the 1891 Census Florence was a draper's assistant visiting Henry John Row, a coal merchant's clerk and his family in Stroud.  In the 1901 Census she was working as a clerk and living with a cousin, Fanny E. Wise who was a single lady working as an upholstress and living at 6 Grove Road, Redland.  This house later became the home of Florence's sister-in-law, Elizabeth, the widow of her brother, Charles Ernest.  Florence died in Bristol in 1922 aged 68.

Ada Emma - in 1871 she was living with her her uncle, James Bevan, and his wife, Elizabeth at 7 Pullins Green.  We understand that she married George Chambers, a musician, in Bath Registry Office in 1880.
