Since 2001, 21 St John Street has been combined with number 19 to form one house which is called 'Willow Cottage'.  The photograph on the left shows its present day appearance.  The photograph on the right is a rather dramatic one taken in 1992 at the time of the fire at the tyre warehouse.  Click here for more information about the fire

The house was built by James Withers in the early years of the nineteenth century.  In 1796, James bought some garden ground on which he built the house which became number 21 and the adjoining house later referred to as number 19.  Thomas Rolph, a major landowner in these parts of Thornbury, had sold the ground.  This is confirmed in a later indenture dated 1812.
