Horseshoe Lane |
In the late 1830’s a survey of the area was made for the purpose of calculating the amount payable to the Manor in place of the tithe. This survey provides the earliest plan of the area covered by Horseshoe Lane and Gillingstool Hill and gives details of who owned and occupied the land, and its use at that time. It was published in 1840 but seems to have taken two or three years to compile. This means some information was out of date by the time it was published.
The detail accompanying the 1840 Tithe map shows: Plot 125 - cottage and garden owned by Thomas Wise and occupied by William Wilson and William Hollister Plot 126 - house and garden owned by Thomas Wise and occupied by John Marshman Plot 127 - garden owned and occupied by Thomas Wise Plot 128 - house and garden owned by Thomas Wise and occupied by John Lydiard Plot 129 - house and court owned by Joseph Stephens and occupied by Hannah Pride Plot 130 - house and garden owned by Thomas Wise and occupied by himself and Sarah Hopton Plot 132 - house and garden owned by Mary Wilkes and occupied by Sarah Hughes and Mary Lidiard Plot 133 - house and garden owned by Mary Wilkes and occupied by Thomas Grigg, John Thomas, William Clutterbuck, Thomas Smith, Thomas Elton, Joseph Pym and William Matthews Plot 134 - house and garden owned by Mary Wilkes and occupied by herself Plot 222 - house and garden owned by Daniel Burchell and occupied by William Goff and John Shield Plot 221 - house owned by Daniel Burchell and occupied by Maria Cam and William Clark Plot 220 - house, shop and yard owned and occupied by Daniel Burchell Plot 224 - house and garden owned by Sarah Trayherne and occupied by George Hare Plot 225 - house and garden owned and occupied by Sarah Trayherne This page was last updated: 10/07/2008 |
